Live: FKA Twigs – Dark Mofo Festival

FKA Twigs ended her gig as she started: alone and unadorned: a remarkable rendition of her current single ‘Cellophane’. In the vast cavernous Mac2 hall on Hobart’s waterside in the midst of the outrageous and ambitious Dark Mofo Festival, she put on a mesmerising performance that made the big venue intimate and kept the crowd enthralled.

It possibly goes without saying that FKA Twigs possesses an amazing voice, and this was matched by a mesmerising stage presence and precise, sparkling production.

Her first act was a tap dance, without any wigs, hats or elaborate costumes. It was only after a spectacular costume change and the introduction of gyrating dancers that the back curtain drew back to reveal a large scaffolding and an actual band playing the instrumentation.

This was a performance piece with songs at its best: spectacular visually, impeccable musically and entertaining throughout.
