News: Final Cambridge Folk Festival line-up announced

Singing Scottish twins The Proclaimers are the latest big name added to the Cambridge Folk Festival bill joining veteran peacenik Joan Baez, posh troubadour Frank Turner, Joan Armatrading and Wilko Johnson who has recovered from his cancer scare.

But if you want to go you’d better be quick as the strong bill means Saturday day tickets are already sold out.

Pressure on tickets will only increase when they announce the line-ups for the Club Tent showcases that give a platform to artists the Festival expects to go on to great things with previous picks including Newton Faulkner, Seth Lakeman and The Staves, It will be interesting to see who is on the up and coming talent stage The Den which has previously seen debuts from the likes of Jake Bugg and Hudson Taylor.

Don’t fall for all the folk stereotypes as this is always an eclectic bill so there will be a set from The Unthanks, who have just released their brilliant album album Mount The Air, but there is also a spot for ska veterans The Skatalites who have been knocking out top dancehall tunes for 50 years.

The younger generation will be looking forward to Oxford’s Stornoway, while older folkies will appreciate US singer songwriter Gretchen Peters appearing here with her band for the first time.

The festival aims to offer something for everyone with four covered stages, street theatre, music workshops and sessions, raucous ceilidhs, open stages, a youth area, internet café, kids’ ceilidh, storytelling, free creche, paddling pool and playground, real ale bars.

Last year Cambridge Folk Festival won the highest possible environmental honour at the Greener Festival Awards, becoming one of only nine festivals worldwide and one of only two in the UK to achieve the Outstanding category.
