EP: Dorsia – Bygones

London production duo Dorsia kick off the new year with their second release, out through the Chasing Unicorns label on February 2nd. It follows on from their debut single Ghana which came out on LOFT records last spring and earned them support from the likes of Bicep, Tensnake, Jaques Renault and The Magician.

Title track Bygones opens up with this thumping bassline and almost disco house percussion in the background while these synth lines build up the sense of euphoria which (inevitably with these things) ebbs and flows, while in the slightly quieter moments features these arpeggiated that dance (but then, doesn’t everything in this) through your ears. There’s snatches of vocals and these warm chords that add to the ambience, but first and foremost this is a big room banger.

Formative Years is slightly back from its dancefloor partner, but its the gently rippling and cascading synths that really allow the track to come alive. As it gradually unfurls, so this rather unhinged bassline and stabby synth figure take over, with the vocal cut ups only really acting, for the most part, to glue things together.

Dorsia releases ‘Bygones’ EP on Chasing Unicorns on 2nd February 2015, and its top quality. Go find it.
