With Wolverhampton based noise merchants God Damn, made up of Thom Edward and Ash Weaver, already releasing one critically acclaimed masterpiece of sonic terror this year, the band are showing no signs of taking it easy. Their album “Vultures” came out not too long ago but the band are already preparing to unleash their new album entitled “Dead To Me”.
The aforementioned “Vultures” explored the bands more progressive and experimental side but with “Dead To Me” God Damn get straight to the point. One half of the noisy duo Thom Edward states that “We always push our boundaries and try to create new sounds. Following on from ‘Vultures’, we decided ‘Dead To Me’ should be more direct and in your f***ing face. It does just that.”
This abrasive style has certainly been reflected in the bands live shows, take this years Reading and Leeds festival for example. During their Reading show the band played at ear-drum bursting levels leaving the stage with a symphony of screeching distortion. The very next day the band performed at Leeds festival where guitarist/vocalist Thom Edward took it upon himself to decimate the stage only returning to smash his guitar, impaling his hands with pieces of wood in the process. Their show definitely didn’t go unnoticed as NME included it in their top ten buzziest bands on the festival list.
In wake of the album God Damn have released a new single also entitled “Dead To Me”. Regarding the lyrics to the song Thom explains that “It’s about those moments when you see an old ghost in a very public place. Then rather than cowering from the situation and pretending you haven’t seen one another, you confront each other and kill the horrible air dead. You then run away and cringe!”
The album is due to be released the 20th of November on One Little Indian Records. In support of the new record the band will be performing throughout the UK before the albums release with tickets available from the bands website http://goddamntheband.com/live
