New Music: Kevin shields remixes The Undertones: Get over You, plus reissue news

Dublin punks The Undertones were there right at the start of things, so it’s perhaps fitting that as this year marks the 40th anniversary of both the band and punk rock itself, Union Square music has announced that they are to remaster and reissue on vinyl the bands first two albums – 1979’s self titled debut, and follow up Hypnotised which first appeared a year later in 1980.

Both LP’s have been remastered from the original tapes and are being produced on 180g heavyweight vinyl with their original replicated artwork, and are stuffed full of classics – The Undertones features classic slabs of 3 minute pop/punk such as ‘Here Comes the Summer’, ‘Jimmy Jimmy’ and the seminal ‘Teenage Kicks’, while the follow up, produced by Roger Bechirian, reached number 6 in the UK Albums Charts and includes the hit singles ‘My Perfect Cousin’ and ‘Wednesday Week’, ‘Hypnotised’.

IN addition, the band are also releasing a new version of the classic single ‘Get over you’, remixed from the original multi track tape by Kevin Shields (My Bloody Valentine/Primal Scream), and available on 180g heavyweight red vinyl. It sums up the band perfectly – outrageously catchy, wwith scything guitars and propelling drums, all adorned with Feargal Sharkey’s pronounced vibrato. Check out the new version, here

The band continue to tour and perform at venues and festivals throughout the UK and Europe and are set to embark on a 12-date 40th Anniversary UK tour this autumn.
