Track: KIT – No Mercy

New York rockers KIT is actually the brainchild of former Scapegoat front man Kit Walters, who, apart from fronting prog metal bands, also was the featured vocalist for the Metal Gear Rising: Revengance video game. Whereas their previous EP Through the Fire showed the band at their electro-infused best, their new single ‘No Mercy’ is much more organic blues rock. When asked about the inspiration, Kit attests

“The track is a deeply personal one for me. It came to me out of the blue one night. I wasn’t trying to write a song. But it came nonetheless. I wrote, tracked, and cut the whole thing within one sitting. I’m sure it will mean different things to different people. But for me it completely encapsulates my world over the past few years. The good, the bad, the ups and the downs. It’s a realisation of who I am and who I’m not. My strengths and weaknesses, glory and shame. It’s about making peace with all of that. Cuz where the rubber meets the road, all we truly have lies within the four walls through which we perceive our world. The greatest pleasure in life comes from doing what others say cannot be done. No Mercy is a track that pays homage to all the people who told me I would never be standing on the ground I am today.”

At its opening, No Mercy is a slow, raw song, fashioned roughly around Walters gruff baritone. Soon though. Its moved up in tempo (and octave) into a good old rock stomper, taped up with these rowdy guitar riffs, snatches of vocal harmony, a long way from its almost acoustic opening.

Its a fair old journey to take in two and a half minutes, but its worth it.
