Track: Lauren Desberg – He Loves and She Loves

Seems a bit of a cheek to have this, the new track from 23 year old Los Angeles singer Lauren Desberg, given that it was written by George Gershwin for his 1927 musical ‘Funny Face’. A Graduate of Berklee where she won the ASCAP Foundation’s Leiber and Stoller Music Award, Lauren Desberg has been gaining fans and admirers since, and ‘He Loves and She Loves’ comes from her full length album, ’21st Century Problems’, where she blurs the lines between jazz and neo-soul to reinterpret jazz greats.

As with many of Gershwins great songs, its at its core, a think of beauty. Desberg gives a modern slant on it, conversing with the saxophone, her soulful voice steeped in ‘that’ jazz tradition, sugared liberally with backing vocals before giving itself over to this rather angular piano solo. From there it manages to slowly wind itself up into a whirl of sound before its conclusion.
