Track: Northern American – Modern Phenomena

Ahead of their debut album Modern Phenomena, which drops on May 18th via Heist or Hit Records, Los Angeles quartet Northern American have released a taster in the shape of the albums title track. Its a follow-up to the bands 2013 EP Happiness Hungover, and was recorded at Red Rockets Glare Studio in Santa Monica with producer Raymond Richards (Local Natives).

It unfurls from its close opening into this melancholy tinged synth/indie pop gem. There’s wistful synth (obviously) lines, as this shuffling bass is sweetened with vocal harmonies and sun tinged guitar chords that ripple over the changes. Its got a melody that winds its way around your psyche, where it curls up and stays.

As Autumn looms on the horizon, its nice to hear something that’s so obviously Sun Kissed.
