News: Travis cover Del Amitri cracker for Christmas charity single

SBH Scotland staff and children celebrating Travis Del Amitri Christmas single

Travis plan to make something happen for a good cause with their festive cover of Del Amitri hit ‘Nothing Ever Happens’.

The single (available for pre-order download on iTunes today) is a cover of one of Del Amitri’s best-known songs wrapped up in Fran Healy’s distinctive, warm vocals and tied together with sparkling sleigh bells ringing. All proceeds from the sale of the single will go to Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus (SBH) Scotland, along with the income from the full album of Del Amitri covers it appears on – ‘Pasted Beyond Recognition’.

It began as a simple idea from Del Amitri fans to make an album of covers for a good cause, but quickly developed as established acts saw conversations about the album on social media and offered their support. Ricky Ross of Deacon Blue, Withered Hand and Tom McRae are also providing songs for ‘Pasted Beyond Recognition’ – words taken from the lyrics of Del Amitri song ‘Surface Of The Moon’.

Healy commented: “Nothing Ever Happens is a perfect song which is as relevant today as it was when it was written. I feel honoured to have been allowed to give it a shot. It’s never going to be as good as the original but it’s a decent effort. We hope it helps sell the CD.”

The album will be launched at a special night of music on Saturday 17 December 2016 at the Òran Mór in Glasgow, with some of the acts – including Tom McRae, Blue Rose Code, Withered Hand, Jill Jackson (Speedway) and Kris Dollimore – performing their cover versions. All proceeds from the event will also be donated to SBH Scotland.

Artists shared their involvement on Twitter:

Justin Currie will also perform at the album launch show. Commenting on his support for SBH Scotland, he said: “I know one of the families who are supported by Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Scotland. They are consistently singing the praises of the charity and the work they do to make their everyday lives that much easier”.

Deborah Roe, Director of Fundraising for SBH Scotland, said: “We are grateful to the Del Amitri fans, Travis, Justin Currie and all of the fantastic musicians who have all generously come together to collaborate on this release. As a charity that is almost solely self-funded, the money and awareness raised will make a huge difference to the lives of those across Scotland affected by these lifelong, complex conditions. The launch gig will be the perfect end to our 50th anniversary celebrations.”

‘Pasted Beyond Recognition’ is also available for pre-release digital download on iTunes and a limited run of 500 CDs can be also be pre-ordered on the SBH Scotland website.

Tickets for the album launch gig are £25 and are available now from the Òran Mór website.
