A few days ago we raved about her new video – now rising soul singer, cellist and producer Izzi Dunn has given us an exclusive look into her record collection and musical taste as she picks out her Soul top ten, and gives us a little insight into her thoughts and emotions on each track. There’s some classic singers and indeed classic songs, but there’s a twist, with some of the tracks going a little leftfield – just how we like it.

Before you gorge yourself on some classic soul (and nu-soul) take a little look at Izzi’s new video for the track belong, right here.

Young Disciples – ‘Apparently Nothing’
Powerful Seminal Song of an Era.. part of my musical education

Chaka Khan – ‘I feel for you’
Just.. just because.. she makes me dance & weep in equal measure whenever I hear her voice

Erykah Badu – ‘Window Seat’
Love this lady.. have been a huge fan since Baduizm.. – love the powerful video & that she’s never afraid of making statements

Sade – ‘No Ordinary Love’
Achingly beautiful.. the perfect ‘Love Song’

Curtis Mayfield – ‘Here but I’m Gone’
Hauntingly brave & honest

James Blake – ‘Retrograde’
Fragile yet imposing production…..A wonderful merging of digital soundscaping & human vulnerability

Cody Chesnutt – ‘That’s Still Mama’
Triumphant & empowering, great message..reminds me of the Bobby Womack in my list!

Mica Paris – ‘I Should’ve known better’
Classic,Understated & Sensuous, with one of the funkiest basslines ever written!

Bobby Womack – ‘Across 110th Street’
I am in the hussle of Harlem, deepest downtown New York everytime I hear it.. Epic

Jaguar Wright – ‘Self Love’
An amazingly powerful song & vocal performance
