Preview: Strange Waves, Manchester 09.09.2016

A meeting of minds in Manchester has set wheels in motion for something rather special that is to come on 9th September 2016. Promoters Strange Days and Now Wave have joined forces to offer an exclusive event being held at The O2 Ritz over two stages, with proceedings continuing through to 1am.

Headlining the event and needing no introduction to the initiated are Australia’s finest psychedelic rockers, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Formed in 2010 and currently releasing on Heavenly Recordings, King Gizzard are on tour on the back of their 8th full-length album release Nonagon Infinity. The seven strong act have become notorious for their live performances and their return to Manchester is already hotly anticipated.

They are joined by fellow Heavenly act, The Wytches. Formed in 2011 and releasing debut album Annabel Dream Reader in late 2014, they have just announced that second album All Your Happy Life at the end of September. They will perform on the back of a headliner slot at Skeleton Coast Festival and their raw punk energy blended with finer rock rhythms is sure to impress.

The Big Moon, London’s finest female quartet, have been causing a stir following the release of melodic rock number ‘Cupid’ a few months ago. Shame, another London offering, put out ‘The Lick’ recently, a spoken word track with guitars so catchy its impossible to stand still is certain to go down a storm live. They will be playing In The Woods festival before they reach Manchester.

Spanish stoner-rock trio The Parrots, yet another Heavenly artist, have captured fans with their raucous live shows and this looks set to be no exception. Their latest single ‘Let’s Do It Again’ has proved popular and their inclusion on this bill is most welcome.

Completing the line up is Methyl Ethel and Charlotte Cannon.
