Say Psych: Live, Hookworms, Liverpool PsychFest, 26.09.15

This was Hookworms third appearance at the Liverpool PsychFest, with the band’s rise up the bill over that time matching it increasing prominence and success elsewhere. Following last year’s excellent Hum album (which made the Psych Insight essential list last year), Hookworms have been on something of a hiatus, with most of the band members exploring diverse but very satisfying individual projects.

So after not seeing the band for a while it was great to catch it again. Despite some obvious problems with setting up the group launched straight into a set that has become very familiar too me, opening with the utterly brilliant ‘Away/Towards’ and encompassing a string of great live tracks including ‘Radio Tokyo’, ‘The Impasse’ and ‘On  Leaving’. It was as exciting as ever and really wowed the packed Furnace stage crowd and created an atmosphere that was both upbeat and edgy.

I am really looking forward to seeing what this innovative and always interesting band do next.
