Say Psych: Playlist 11/2016

I hadn’t heard any of the tracks on this week’s Psych Insight playlist a week ago, so it’s been brilliant to catch up with these. Not all of the songs here are new, although most are, but all of them remind me how much great stuff there is out there. Enjoy!

Take Me Beyond (Gnomes Remix) by Josefin Ohrn + The Liberation

Josefin Ohrn + Liberation and Gnoomes both brought out well-received albums on Rocket Recordings last year. They’ve now been brought together on this split LP, with three tracks from each; one from each remixed by the other. Available now from Rocket.

Weightless by Mayflower Madame

“[An] album that shows a band that honours its influences very carefully, but also mixes them together in a way that feels both dark and uplifting as the same time; and this to me is the mark of excellence for an album of this ilk. ‘Observed in a Dream’ has some really good moments, has some great tunes, and is really well put together…”

Punk Police by Fancy Rosy

A track from 1977 that I’ve never heard before Dave from Cardinal Fuzz shared this recently. Nice one!

Joan by Peter J Smyth

Amazing track from the Mugstar front-man, really stripped back. From his new album on God Unknown Records.

Already by DIIE

DIIE are a Kraut-Punk band from Minneapolis featuring current and past members of Colfax Abbey, Fire in the Northern Firs, Hollow Boys & Magic Castles among others. The band have just released a new cassette EP called UFOS: SATANIC TERROR, a heavier, more pummeling sound that encompasses kraut-rock, shoegaze, psych, desert rock and ambient music. Available from their Bandcamp here.

Levitate by ADAMA

Northern Swedish space-psych band ADAMA are releasing their debut album “Ruhin” on May 29. 2016 on Fonomonik Records. This is the first single, released last month, from the album.

Masked Disobedience by Radar Men From The Moon (RMFTM)

I really like RMFTM who, for me have a series of really great albums behind them. This track is from the second of the band’s ‘Subversive’ trilogy and it is an absolute monster. It this is anything to go by it is going to be the most out there set from the Dutch collective thus far. Coming out soon on Fuzz Club Records.

Levitation by Celestial Bums

Celestial Bums, from Barcelona, released their new album, ‘Ascend’, on EXAG Records on June 13th, produced by Kyle Hunt (from The Black Angels). I’m loving this first single which beds well for the LP.

Down on the Beach by B-17

B-17 are a really interesting band who have put together quite an eclectic album combining a number of different psychedelic influences. One of those bands who are better heard than trying to describe them. So just head over to their bandcamp here.

Madrigal Meridian by Electric Moon

John Westhaver played this on his Friday Morning Cartunes radio show on Ottawa’s CKCUFM; this week a Fruits de Mare Records special, and I was blown away by it; a cover of the Tangerine Dream track. Just brilliant!
