Say Psych: Preview: Strange Waves IV, Manchester – 20.10.2018

Manchester promoters Strange Days and Now Wave have joined forces once more to offer a night of loosely psychedelic themed music across three venues in the city on 20th October. Strange Waves IV will be taking over Manchester Academy, The Union and Big Hands to bring an international line up to the city that is likely not to be repeated again and hence not to be missed.

The biggest draw on the bill is the infamous Brian Jonestown Massacre who need no introduction for anyone who’s been around in the last ten years. BJM have an astonishing 16 LPs to their name as well as an equally impressive number of EPs and single, always draw a crowd when they play live and this should be no exception. Led by Anton Newcombe they know how to entertain and this show is part of the current 15 date European tour. Joining them will be The Stevenson Ranch Davidians, who hail from Southern California and have been making music since 2006. Their latest album Amerikana was released in June 2017 after an absence of some 8 years, and the announcement that they were playing live in Europe again was gratefully received by fans and new converts alike.

Fellow Californian Kadhja Bonet brings a blend of funky psychedelic soul which has to be listened to to be comprehended. She will mellow things out a little with her vocal melodies and detract from some of the guitar heavy other acts. If her recorded stuff is anything to go by, she’ll be a breath of fresh air. Londoners Flamingods will undoubtedly continue this with their exotic Tropicalia blended vibes.

Also on the bill is The Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess offering us some of his solo material, which will complement the other artists well as well as Mourn with their punk edged indie and Brighton quarter Fur who offer something a little softer.
