See: Minor Victories release new video for A Hundred Ropes

So….. A “supergroup” featuring members of Slowdive, Mogwai, Editors and one of the most promising young video producers around?
Yep, we’ll have a bit of that….
So Monday (22nd February) was a busy day for Minor Victories: Rachel Goswell of Slowdive, Stuart Braithwaite of Mogwai, Justin Lockey of Editors and his brother James of Hand Held Cine Club. Not content with releasing details of their forthcoming eponymous LP, due out on Fat Possum/PIAS on June 3rd, AND a small run of live dates, we also got a more substantial taster of the actual music in the form of A Hundred Ropes, a dark, synth heavy monster of a track, which manages to sound something like what you’d expect such a disparate mix might be like, and yet nothing like those bands themselves. Rachel’s distinctive vocals sit down in the mix, allowing for a maelstrom of noise to envelope them, but not so as to completely bury them in standard Shoegaze fashion. What’s even more intriguing is that this, like the forthcoming album, was completed entirely online with little or no shared studio time, such is the industry these days…

The accompanying video is mesmerising, a 10 second, one take shot of Samurai emerging from the undergrowth and charging headlong into the camera, slowed down to ultra slow motion to fit the duration of the track, its inferred impending violence reduced to a deathly crawl, and somehow all the more horrific for it. Fantastic stuff. What’s even more intriguing is that this, like the forthcoming album, was completed entirely online and separately.

In the highly unlikely event there are still tickets available, you can catch Minor Victories at:

3rd May – London Village Underground
4th May – Bristol Theckla
5th May – Leeds Brunell Social Club
