Track: Cosmo Sheldrake – Wriggle, plus European tour dates

London singer-songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist Cosmo Sheldrake has released the latest track, Wriggle, to be taken from his much-anticipated debut album, The Much Much How How and I, which drops on Friday 6th April via Transgressive Records. Speaking of the track, Cosmo says “Wriggle is the last song I wrote for the album. It emerged a couple of weeks before I started the mixing process. Among other sounds, it incorporates Japanese koto drums, marching band percussion, a nightingale from Kent and a host of woodwind instruments including a contrabassoon — one of the lowest instruments in the orchestra. It is a song about celebrating life in the hope that it was one well lived.”

Orchestral in tone and almost minimalist in its initial outlook, as woodwind trip around a theme, Sheldrake allows the track space before his vocals come in. It’s overflowing with ideas, sounds, orchestration and most importantly, melody.

Cosmo has also announced news of a UK/European Spring 2018 tour – following a sold-out headline warehouse party set at Mick’s Garage before Christmas and recent tours with Mr. Jukes and Johnny Flynn.

The Much Much How How and I was written under the influence of a diverse group of musicians – ranging from The Beatles and The Kinks to Moondog and Stravinsky – and shaped by Sheldrake’s study of anthropology at the University of Sussex, his long standing interest in ethnomusicology and a trip to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. It will be available on limited edition vinyl, CD and download and is available to pre-order here.
