Track: Snow Patrol – Empress

Snow Patrol have just premiered Empress, the second single from their forthcoming album (and first for seven years) Wildness. Recently, Snow Patrol debuted music videos for “What If This Is All The Love You Ever Get?,” “Life On Earth,” and “Don’t Give In,” and you can watch them all here. Lead-singer and songwriter Gary Lightbody says of the album: “There are many types of wildness, but I think it can be distilled into two: the wildness of the modern age, all its confusion, illogic and alienation and a more ancient wildness. Something primal, alive and beautiful that speaks to our true connectivity, our passion, our love, our communion with nature and each other. This is the kind of wildness the album is centered around. The loss of it. Trying to reconnect with it. To remember it.”
Empress is typically anthemic indie rock, driven by the bands melodic songwriting. There’s an emotion about Gary Lightbody’s vocal that impresses the weight of the melancholy upon the listener, and he’s at it again here, getting hold of your labels and kneeing you straight in the feels. More than that though, this is the Snow Patrol that have amassed over a billion track streams, as it’s the sort of melody that you instantly feel like you know, such is its quality.
