Track: Thundercat – Friend Zone

Just in time for Valentines Day, Thundercat – aka grammy award winning bassist and singer Stephen Bruner, has released a new track, Friend Zone, from his forthcoming third full-length record, Drunk, which drops via Brainfeeder on February 24th. For the 23-track track journey, Thundercat has enlisted a team of intrepid adventurers to go with him, including: Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Wiz Khalifa, Kamasi Washington and Brainfeeder mastermind Flying Lotus.

Friend Zone a humourous lament on being relegated, or positioned, in the dreaded friend zone (I’m your biggest fan and I guess thats not enough) and was produced by Mono/Poly. Its build on this retro sounding synth line that arc over the tune, with some pure popping funk on the bassline as it shuffles back and forth, as Thundercat cooes over the top. It’s a delicious, funky slice of jazz/soul.

Tasty.
