Track: Vince James – The Man I Want to Be

Processed with VSCO with x1 preset

Welsh singer songwriter Vince James has a new single out today, The Man I want to be, and it has a real significance personally for James. As he explains “I wrote the song for my Grandad, it was to celebrate his 80th Birthday. I was listening to a lot of Jake Bugg’s first album at the time so was heavily influenced by that. The song tells a story about his time growing up as a young lad and how he came to meet his wife (my grandmother) and how they raised three amazing children. It also talks about all the fun and mischievous things us kids used to get up to when we were growing up around him. From then until now he’s always been ‘Vincent, our shining light’.”

It does have the stamp of the Bugg hovering over it, but he manages to make it something personal as it shuffles on with this lightness of touch and catchiness that marks him out as an artists to take notice of in his own right. Check it out, here
