They say that the green-screen music video is becoming an outdated concept. Gauche would beg to disagree, however.
The DC supergroup’s video for “Running” plays up a kitsch production value that made Messrs Tim and Eric such cult figures in both the music and anti-comedy scene alike.
The single, taken from the band’s forthcoming release A People’s History of Gauche out July 12th through Merge, seems to tap into the nostalgia of the previous decade.
The video is something you could expect to see on Adult Swim, or created by groups such as PFFR, while the music sits within the frames of the dance-punk era. It’s part Le Tigre, part Liars sonically – as a full offering, it would make former club-kids of the era long for those halcyon Saturday nights.
I mentioned Gauche as a supergroup; the band consists of members from Downtown Boys and Priests and it comes as no small feat the group are opening for riot grrrl pioneers Bikini Kill in Brooklyn.
Perhaps it’s no surprise there is that touch of Le Tigre influence to their sound then?
