There’s nothing quite like a good creature feature. A film which introduces a monster into a narrative and has a whole lot of fun with it. Whether it works or not has as much to do with the time and effort invested in making it as it does budget. You don’t need to spend millions on your monster to make it work, but you do need to make it feel real and have a coherent story round it. Godmonster of Indian Flats is a great example of the amount of fun you can have in this sub-genre.
On his ranch outside of Reno, Eddie (Richard Marion) has a shock. Amongst his beloved flock of sheep is a surprise. A large mutated sheep embryo. An anthropologist (E. Kerrigan Prescott) and his assistant (Karen Ingenthron) are working at Indian flats, investigating legends about a deformed monster. They take it away to study. Meanwhile, a representative (Christopher Brooks) of a mining company arrives with the intention of purchasing land. The mayor (Stuart Lancaster) has other ideas.
Godmonster of Indian Flats tackles a number of issues through a goofy and whacky narrative. The ‘Wild West’ is evoked through the strange and unusual mind of Fredric Hobbs, bringing an artistic and almost hallucinatory angle to the action. And there’s plenty of action in this inventive and idiosyncratic mixture of sci-fi, horror and western. Godmonster of Indian Flats is a rough and ready rollercoaster ride into madness.
