Droppin’ Knowledge: Australia’s Stevan Shares New Video Single & Mixtape – Watch & Listen

Australian artist Stevan shares a new single from his debut mixtape, Just Kids. The song, “Tripping,” is a dreamy pop confection filmed during lockdown, with all the participants social distancing. The video explores the narrative of love in isolation and is directed by Ollie Bert.

“Tripping’ is the turning point for me on the project,” Stevan says, according to the press release announcing the track. “It’s a switch in tone and I’m moving in a different direction. So, I had to illustrate that visually as well I spoke to Ollie and showed him the new vibe. People are gonna surprised by what’s in store for the future.”

The Wollongong based musician is influenced by a number of artists, including Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Bob Marley and Stevie Wonder. He also cites African gospel, which he heard growing up, as an important inspiration in his musical development. Previously, Stevan released several other singles from the mixtape, “Timee,””LNT,” and “Warm.” Separately, Stevan also recorded his version of the Bill Withers chestnut, “Ain’t No Sunshine.”

On Just Kids, Stevan demonstrates his versatility, with songs ranging from hip hop to dream pop, with folk and gospel flourishes and layered harmonies. The EP is a perfect soundtrack for summer.
