Droppin’ Knowledge: Standing On The Corner Releases New Single

Standing On The Corner Art Ensemble has released a new, multi-track single, “G-E-T-O-U-T!! The Ghetto,” with a promise of more music on the way. The Brooklyn music and art collective, which dropped the powerful song “Angel,” in May, has released two previous long players, 2016’s eponymous Standing On The Corner, and Red Burns, the following year. For the collectors out there, the vinyl versions of both records collect hefty prices on Discogs.

The new single features four tracks: “G-E-T-O-U-T!! The Ghetto Pt.1,” “Ghetto Dub,” “G-E-T-O-U-T!! The Ghetto Pt. II” and “Zolo Go.” The last track clocks in at over seven minutes, a glitchy, pulsating and percussive jaunt, with shouted vocals, organ, and James Brown-style chants. It is beautiful, a cacophonous maelstrom of a song. The Spotify version of the single does not include “Ghetto Dub,” which you can find on Bandcamp: https://standingonthecorner.bandcamp.com/album/g-e-t-o-u-t-the-ghetto

The video for “Angel” featured actor, director and activist Melvin Van Peebles, and was a forlorn meditation on the current moment in the life of earth, and the people who inhabit it.
