LISTEN: Heavenly unveil cosmic new addition

JEFF BARRETT’S always reliable and inspiring Heavenly Records imprint has added another string to its bow with the signing of Australian four-piece Mildlife – and their first LP for the label is slated for a September 18 release.

And a taste of what to expect from down under comes in the shape of  “Rare Air” , the lead track from the album, Automatic

According to the band, “Rare Air” is about the“longing for clarity in the suffocating grip of everyday tedium … wondering what life could or will be, but trying to be present despite the temptation to endlessly pontificate every decision.”

The vinyl issue of Automatic will have a locked groove at the end, “allowing it to continue on an infinite loop,  allowing the listener to decide when the album experience is meant to finish.” Groovy, man!

“Rare Air” sits squarely in the recent fine tradition of Antipodean psych jams, and the band have been out on the road with like minds King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, as well Stereolab.

Mildlife’s debut album for the Research Records imprint, Phase,  garnered a clutch of nominations.

And if the lead track is anything to go by, forthcoming second album will be a sashaying, frugging treat: psychedelia with 70s’ funk groove, happy to grind its hips in a kaftan in a field near you.
