From Lancaster, The Lovely Eggs are a Husband and Wife duo Holly Ross and David Blackwell deliver a noisy and sublime punk style set at their biggest headline show to date at Heaven in London. The show coincides with the bands last album released two years ago in lockdown which also the reason for tonight’s rescheduled show. Tonight’s crowds judging by their faces are all hard core fans and there are here to enjoy the ride with a twist of different rock twisting guitar tracks with some pop culture visuals thrown in!
The band formed in 2006 and soon gained recognition from the likes of BBC1’s Marc Riley and Steve Lamacq. In 2009 they released their debut record, ‘If you were Fruit’ Their latest release is ‘I am Moron ‘
If you thought The Lovely Eggs who once asked in song ‘if you’re ever heard a digital accordion’ are a nice bit of quirky pop, think again as tonight’s show was more a in your face affair. The new songs ‘This Decision’ and ‘Still Second Rate’ taken from ’I am Moron‘ sounding more terrifying than ever with a lot of
banner with the crowd. At one point Ross was telling stories of when they stayed in a premier Inn and their toddler wanted to eat at the Hotel’s canteen and David wanting to fix things rather than spending money to the usual drinking stories!
The noisy, high energy affair came to a close far too quickly as Heaven was hosting a club night after the gig with Ross shouting out loud, ‘open the bar, open the bar’ and phoning her promoter up to advise the same.
The Lovely Eggs hit the spot with the psych-rock laugh out loud anthems, lashing out at modern culture and their vibrant record sleeves featuring colourful artwork featuring microwave meals and sofas and even bog roles.
The Lovely Eggs do put on great shows with the witty lyrics, entertaining stage banter will take them a long way together with the whirlwind fuzz guitar sound everyone has grown familiar with!
