You Me At Six have, as lead vocalist Josh Franceschi puts it “done everything we wanted, and now we’re just doing it for fun.” Considering the band are set to headline Reading And Leeds’ second stage come August, it’s quite the bold statement in regards to the bands goals. They’re here for the fun and for the fans and that’s all that really matters. But they’re still flinging out massive tunes in the form of their latest album Night People.
This show at Doncaster Dome being the mid-way-ish point of the Night People tour they brought along Aussie band Tonight Alive in support who have paved a way for themselves in the UK and their fans were out in force. Vocalist Jenna McDougall donning some very large angel wings on her back and channelling them through to her voice. Whilst ‘How Does It Feel?’ is an array of powerful instrumentals whereas ‘The Other Side’ showcases a lyrically meaningful slower track, but the band still as energetic as ever. Newly released track ‘World Away’ isn’t a world away from the direction the band have been heading including tracks from their 2016 album Limitless. The band will be back in the UK for Slam Dunk Festival in May. But expect to see more of them this year.
A few months bank You Me At Six were in Yorkshire posing as ‘unknown’ band The Underdogs inside the small Key Club in the heart of Leeds city centre. Only a select few were able to attend, but now they’re back for the masses of Yorkshire to enjoy inside Doncaster Dome. The band will of course be playing their new album tracks but will also be, as Franceschi puts it, “flirting with the past.”
Flirting with the past wasn’t wrong, always anticipated ‘Save It For The Bedroom’ rarely made the cut for years and not only did the band put it in the set list for this entire tour, but also teased a Take Off Your Colours anniversary tour, which the crowd were more than delighted about.
Every ‘Yorkshire’ chant was met with delight from the band, of which there was many. If there was none it would’ve been quite disappointing. But easily the best thing about this show is how effortless You Me At Six look and sound. If this show is anything to go by then their next stop back in Yorkshire at Leeds fest will be one you won’t want to miss.
