2020 saw a rebirth of North Easy artist Leddie MC. The year saw her starting again with her music, and gracing us with a new single each month before releasing an EP – Born Of Stone last September. (Read our review here)

First of all, how are you? How are you coping with the pandemic?

Im really well thankyou, i seem to have found myself having the luxury of enjoying lockdown during the Pandemic, so it has not been too bad really. No complaints here, plenty of people a lot worse off.

Can you give us a potted history of yourself and your journey in the music industry (when did you start, how long have you been going, where are you, what the current state of play is with you, anything of note you’ve accomplished etc etc)

I started writing rhymes as a kid, i never intended on evolving into writing or recording – or even performing, but when i went to college i met a group of lads that pushed me to do all of those things, and ive never really stopped… its was all completely by accident!

If you’re trying to explain who you sound like to someone that’s never heard you, what do you say? Did it take you long to find your sound?

I dont really like to explain my music, or how it sounds, I just tell people i make Hip Hop music and if theyre interested in hearing it, where they can find it… im not really someone that likes to brag about what they do or how they do it all too much, i just kind of like to get on with it.

Who inspired you to start making music? And the one or two records that inspired you artistically and why?

Cliche, but Eminem inspired me to start off writing little verses when i was younger.. I actually hated Hip Hop as a kid until i learned to sit and listen to what theyre saying within their lyrics. I was exposed to more of the materialistic side of Hip Hop as a youngster, but when I found the more conscious side of Hip Hop, it really took a hold of me.

Can you tell us a little bit about how a track develops with yourself? What inspires you lyrically and how you go about arranging and completing a track?

It all depends, i might start off with a topic or concept and try to create a backing track that will sit nicely, but thats harder than just creating a beat and writing to it… whatever i make beat wise usually dictates what the track will be as i tend to come up with chorus ideas as im playing around and creating something and then that sets the tone for the rest of the track.

What is more important to you, individual tracks/singles or an album/EP?

At the minute, singles… its all im creating and im releasing them monthly. Next year i plan to release them maybe every 2 months or so as im working on building relationships and friendships with musicians and laying more of a foundation to use as a springboard for my upcoming releases.

What songs are you looking forward to playing live when you get the chance? How much are you missing playing live?

I am missing playing live a little. I did intend on giving that up, but we will see how things go…

Are there any artists past or present you would love to have played with or even been part of?

Difficult to talk about future plans, but what does the future look like for you guys? Do you have any goals or plans you want to achieve?

Id have loved to have made music with Nina Simone or Amy Winehouse, we can all dream haha… If only they were around now, weren’t as a famous, and you could reach them via email, eh?!!

Difficult to talk about future plans, but what does the future look like for you guys? Do you have any goals or plans you want to achieve?

My future plans is writing and recording new music, Thats about it for now… I have no desire to be famous, and i feel like a lot of music is sold via an artists image which is kind of sad, so i will only be releasing video snippets or Adverts for tracks and not full videos… I want the music to be the best it can be before i start introducing anything else, because its so easy to get caught up in everything except the music!

How do you find the North East music scene – Healthy?

The North East scene has always been healthy, we really thrive musically up here… Im currently working with a lot more musicians and vocalists than i ever have before and i think the maturity of the scene, and the level of professionalism really shows at the minute
