It’s been three years since singe songwriter Owem Ashworth released his debut album under his Advance Base moniker, A Shut-Ins Prayer. Since then, he’s been busy on projects including a book of drawings, making beats for Chicago rapper Serengeti, recoding the debut single by psych-folker Mulie Byrne, contributing to Sun Kil Moon’s Beni album, and produced more than a dozen other releases for his own Orindal Records imprint.
Now he’s returned to Advance Base and released a little taster for the forthcoming second album in the shape of a song, Pamela. It’s full of these innocent sounding synth lines, lo-Fi production topped off with tinny drum machine and storytelling of a stark, real nature. But, and it’s a big but, it’s also filled with melancholy and touched with beauty.
