New music: First Aid Kit “Master Pretender”

First Aid Kit make music which sounds like it belongs in the latest cool indie film of the moment. All bouncy backing, soaring strings and vocals which are both endearingly plaintive and beautifully whimsical. Against the somewhat overpopulated marketplace of pop folk, First Aid Kit manage to stand out for a number of reasons: firstly, they are wonderful, quirkily European, hailing from Stockholm, Sweden; secondly, they are an all-female duo, comprising the sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg; lastly, they somehow manage to sound as if they hail from an undetermined part of middle America, channelling bittersweet country vibes which please the critics and also manage to trouble the charts. The duo’s 2014 album “Stay Gold” reached #11 in the UK and was ranked by BBC Radio 6 Music as their 3rd best album of the year, whilst the standout single “My Silver Lining” was named by Billboard as one of their tracks of 2014. The latest reason to buy that album is track 2, “Master Pretender”, which has a new and delightful animated lyric video which looks like something Wes Anderson would nab for the opening credits of his latest film.

Check out the video below. If you were lucky enough to get tickets, the band have just completed a sell-out UK tour.
