New Music: Holly Macve – We Don’t Know Where We’re Going

Holly Macve

Bella Union really is the place to be right now. It is already the home to such acts as MONEY, Ezra Furman, and Emmy The Great. So latest signing Holly Macve is in good company. The Yorkshire lass was signed up last year, and is already setting off on tour, supporting Villagers. This brand new track shows that Holly is the full package. Vocally she  is edgy, and emotive. She is backed up on this piano-lead track but a raw, but brilliantly produced track. Originally the song was recorded back in 1972 by Melanie Safka. Not a song or an artist I was familiar with myself. But if you’re going to do a cover, then surely it’s worth going with something a little more leftfield; something that listeners may not be so used to hearing again. And that’s what she has done; created a track that could be her own.

Listen to the track. It could be the first of many great songs we hear from her. With so many female vocalists coming out if the woodwork,  it’s great to hear from someone so current and original. And come on people, that’s an awesome hat she’s rocking on the cover too.

Check her out on Facebook and Twitter.
