Honeyblood make a magical return with the spellbinding first single from new album ‘Babes Never Die’.
The Glasgow-based duo of Stina Tweeddale and drummer Cat Myers have announced that the wait is over for their eagerly anticipated second album, ‘Babes Never Die’ (out 4 November on Fat Cat Records), and have shared the video for first single ‘Ready For The Magic’. They have also announced their biggest UK tour to date (full list below) in support of the new album.
‘Ready For The Magic’ begins with a chugging, and doom-filled, riff before Tweeddale’s snarling vocals cut through hand-in-hand with the pounding drum beat – and so the bewitching begins. The verses wind up to each chorus like a coiled spring before the distorted guitars and call and response vocals explode with Tweeddale addressing incendiary feelings of infatuation (“sparks ignite when we collide”).
The macabre video (watch it below) is the perfect complement to a single full of destructive passion – featuring a tribe of young feral girls living in a post-apocalyptic Scottish countryside. The visceral fear of a dystopian world is made real when Tweeddale and Myers stumble across the children. Tweeddale has explained that the story of the video is “an image that chimes with what the album is all about” and that the title, ‘Babes Never Die’, is “a war cry; to have the faith to never let yourself be defeated”. It’s a triumphant mantra that has clearly influenced their music to date.
With intoxicating rock tracks like this as their incantations, Honeyblood cast a spell that is impossible to reverse.
