It seems there is a wealth of acts coming out of Ireland, with people like Kodaline and Gavin James leading the charge in 2013. This year though, it might be Hudson Taylor, a pair of brothers from the suburbs of Dublin, that could be coming to the fore.
We’ve written about them before, but they make this beautiful stripped down folk music that gently winds its way through the folk traditions whilst throwing some of the most genuinely beautifully melodic music around at the moment at you. They’ve been pretty much touring for the whole of the last year, taking on support roles with the likes of the aforementioned Kodaline, and also Jake Bugg, as well as playing Glastonbury, Bestival and Cambridge Folk Festival.
Their new single ‘Weapons’ is out through Polydor on March 17th. It was produced by Iain Archer, who has been working with the band on their debut album, something that the boys are pretty pleased with and excited about “We’re really coming into our own,” says Harry. “We’ve been recording some great stuff and we know where we want to go with it.”
Weapons starts out with this simple riff, but quickly unfurls to show that it has many layers that weave in and out of each other, not least the two boys that sing with these lovely harmonies. It also seems that the boys songwriting continues to develop, with something that’s still as catchy as from their Osea EP, but is somehow deeper, more organic, but just as beautiful.
