Track: Lisbon – Shark

Lisbon - Shark

Whitley Bay heroes Lisbon take a big ferocious bite out of the music industry’s ego with their latest hit-in-the-making “Shark”. The band strike a much heavier route than usual but it’s still right up there with their usual distinctive jangly guitar pop, packed full of insistent rhythms, soaring vocals (a lot more ahhhs for your money on this one – ideal for the crowds on their ongoing tour!) and searing crunching riffs.

Starting with building feedback, the track continues to build and build across its 3 minutes plus, exploring the extended metaphor of the music world as a dangerous ocean full of possibilities but also many dangerous characters like the eponymous shark. Lisbon could almost trademark the “where now?” motif, it recurring across their impressive catalogue to date, but here it seems more about whether it’s safe to go back into the water a la “Jaws 2” and equally, where to head next in their career which is going from strength to strength.

Lisbon are on the road again for the second time this year – check them out while they’re still in the more intimate venues as stadiums are surely next on the agenda. To borrow the Jaws lingo, I think they’re going to need a bigger stage.
