New Music: Melanie De Biasio – I feel you (Eels Remix)

Taking Mark Hollis as inspiration is one thing, producing an album of the quality of No Deal is quite another, wearing its jazz influences proudly on its sleeve, stripped back and semi-improvised with its brooding piano trio-like backing, and De Biasio’s rich alto able to get under the skin of the song. It’s been recieved with a mixture of admiration and envy, having been showcased by the likes of Gilles Peterson and Lauren Laverne.

After playing James Lavelle’s Meltdown Festival and supporting Eels at the Royal Albert Hall, the band have got their mits all over ‘I feel you’, a eerie, empty soundtrack on the Brussels based artists record. Eels have kept much of the experimental undercurrant, taking slivers of the original wind accompaniment and pouring it over large parts of the track, the strings butting in half way through, before parity is resumed.

Catch De Biasio at her biggest London headline show yet at Village Undergound, Shoreditch, on Monday 24th November. Tickets can be bought here
