Track: Sleeping Lessons – Breathe

Born out of the tradegy of losing his young son, Sleeping Lessons’ singer and guitarist Charlie Deane immersed himself in music, as a form of therapy, and the band – dissolved for some six years, reconvened with renewed vigour. The first glimpse of this period of creativity comes in the shape of a new single, Breathe.

Built on Deane’s honest, occasionally almost harrowing lyrics, the track is this synth heavy slice of indie pop, which glistens with the sort of melody that tugs at your heartstrings, and is soaked in more than a little melancholy, just for good measure. Throw in some Cure-like basslines, a soaring guitar solo and an ending that’s so sudden it takes your breath away, and you’re on to a winner.
