Track: The Big Pink – Hightimes

The Big Pink - Hightimes.

I first fell in love with The Big Pink back in 2009 when I heard their huge emo-anthem ‘Velvet’. Both the production of the track with its layered up guitars, and its stirring lyrics made a song as close to perfect as was ever possible.  The album ‘A Brief History Of Love’ followed, and continued with the theme of beautifully produced shoegaze-esque belters. Album number two ‘Future This’ had a more commercial sound, but still kept the elements that made tus love them in the first place. It went on to be my album of the year. If you’ve not heard it, I would recommend checking out tracks ‘1313’ and the absolutely heart-wrenching album closer ’77’.

When founder members Milo Cordell and Robbie Furze announced they would  only longer be making music together, the future of the band seemed uncertain. But not they’re back, with a brand new line-up and new music. ‘Hightimes’ is the first new track from the band since 2012. A line-up change can often change a band in unexpected ways, but this comeback track takes them back to their routes and delves into those moody chords from their earlier work. Album number three is due to drop soon, and this first single makes me think it’s going to be another good one.
