Track: The Legends – Up and Away

Perhaps more familiar for his other projects, Club 8 and Acid House Kings, Johan Angergård has reconvened his The Legends project, fairly easy as it turns out, because its only him, much to some people’s surprise. Their first album in six years is out now via revered Swedish indie pop label Labrador records, and this single – Up and Away, is a marker for it.

The album, It’s Love, is self explanatary as Angergård wrestles with loss, love and identity as well as new love, infatuation and anxiety. It’s all close at hand as well, as the subject of this love, Sara, provides lead vocals on Up and Away. There’s a serene beauty about it, all lilting, seeping synth chords, with this gently rattling percussion. There’s something of the Latin America about the whole thing, as it ebbs and flows dreamily away.

On his new life, Angergård says “It’s a new start. There’s a lot of hope. There’s love.” That, at least with Up and Away, you can tell.
