I seem to remember Editors arose in the slipstream of Interpol when there was a sudden burst of pseudo-Joy Division/Goth-lite bands (whose alumni also included White Lies). In my view, despite Interpol’s stunning debit (Turn on the Bright Lights), Editors have proven themselves to be a far more consistently creative band in the intervening time, carving out a very nice niche in the school of serious, sonorous new wave rock.
On a slightly bizarre note (and explaining my warm sentiments towards this band), I, for some strange reason took up smoking for the first time in my later years, and Editors’s song “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors“, capturing as it does the imagery of desperate addiction, helped shamed me into giving up my fledgling smoking career.
Their new single, “Sugar” is being released on 24 March, and is the fourth from their excellent album “The Weight of Your Love”, which has been their best selling album so far. It is a classic Editors song with thundering bass and deep aching vocals.
Editors return to live action in the UK with two gigs in London on 18th and 19th March at London’s Roundhouse. Tickets for the first night are now sold out but a limited amount of tickets are still available for the second night.
