See: Flying Lotus releases new video for Never Catch Me feat. Kendrick Lamar

It would be fair to say that Kendrick Lamar’s new single ‘i’ has been controversial, with many seeing it as Kendrick’s play for the radio. That the Kendrick featuring ‘Never Catch Me’, off of Flying Lotus’ new album ‘You’re Dead!’, came out just a week or so beforehand probably didn’t help matters. Whilst both tracks have a retro-futuristic sound and a Thundercat bass solo ‘Never Catch Me’ is darker, wilder and more primal and a shining example of two stellar talents pushing one another to their creative limits.

‘Never Catch Me’ is a rare combination of attributes being both playful and dark and its therefore fitting that its video captures and distils these two competing elements. The video is beautifully shot and follows the awakening of two dead children at their funeral, watching them as they dance joyously out of the church before driving away in a hearse.

‘You’re Dead!’ drops next week via warp, but for those of you who can’t wait to hear it in its entirety 10pm Friday 3rd October (a.k.a tomorrow…) there will be a full 24 hour streaming of the album along with a full length ‘Psychadelic Death Trip’ film by Xavier Magot from here.
