YORKSHIRE’S rather excellent shoegazers bdrmm have announced a new EP, The Bedroom Tapes, which they’ll be releasing through the offices of Sonic Cathedral on October 23rd.

The EP will consist of seven tracks, and will collate remixes and lockdown sessions as a follow-up to their excellent debut album Bedroom, which was released earlier in the summer; read our review of the album here.

As well as being available digitally, Sonic Cathedral will be releasing the EP on black cassette and a limited white vinyl 12″. Nice. Order yours PDQ, here.

The session versions featured on the new EP are “bare bones” takes of “Gush”, “A Reason To Celebrate” and ‘”Forget The Credits”, all as featured on the debut album; plus a version of their 2019 single “Question Mark”. This quartet of tracks were recorded at home by Ryan and Jordan for radio sessions, and bring new light to the songs in their homespun fragility.

“They were recorded over a three-day period at the height of our lockdown anxieties,” says Jordan.

“They are intentionally stripped back and loose, juxtaposing what we set out to do with the album.

We pulled together a small recording studio in my bedroom; there were cables everywhere and it was all quite a mess. As a result, these versions are more reflective of the times they were recorded in: suppressed, uncertain and alone.”

The final three tracks to feature are remixes: GLOK (Andy Bell)’s take on “A Reason To Celebrate”, which drops dirty Weatherall-style breaks over the riffs; Ditz’s reconstruction of “If….” has a dark-edged 8-bit techno – take a listen, we’ve embedded it below; and International Teachers Of Pop’s taken on “Happy”.

And you can see them live this month – in the flesh – now there’s a reason to celebrate: they’ll be headlining the fourth night of the Fast & Bulbous festival, to be held in the car park at The New Adelphi Club, Hull, on Sunday, September 27th.

Each day is limited to just 48 tickets, due to social distancing; bubbles of a maximum of six people can apply for tickets on site. There are a handful of tickets available here.
