Following on from the success of their bold and self-assured debut EP, 2020’s Strangest DesiresCOLLAR’S brand new EP HARD TIME TO TAKE IT is out now and proving to be a hypnotic, grungy beat-driven offering that features flickering percussive production from Charles Murdoch and Spencer White’s signature deep vocals.

COLLAR will also be playing one of the very first shows at the newly-restored Princess Theatre, Queensland’s oldest standing performance venue. This will be the first time the general public will have the chance to see the venue come to life following an 8-month restoration project. Find tickets and more info on the show, set for 1st October HERE.

Spencer White, one half of the industrial-electronic duo, explains how the new EP evolved from conception to reality:  “HARD TIME TO TAKE IT came from the beginning of a drastic change of pace. Each day, it seemed life was becoming increasingly foreign. With space and complete uncertainty, the music happened quickly, appearing in front of us, undoubtedly for a reason.  It resonated as being oddly sincere to which, both myself and Charles, had no reservations.”

“The way we communicate when writing, is habitually to distance from reality and disguise signs of frank narrative, whereas, at this point in time, honesty reared its eager head.  HARD TIME TO TAKE IT is delivered as a turning point, a hypothetical shoulder to lean on and the intent to become an Ode to Solitude.” – Spencer, COLLAR

Written and produced entirely by the pair, the 5 track EP includes brooding focus single ‘TRIPPING OVER MYSELF’, as well as the anthemic ‘LOST IN SOMETHING’, futuristic love song ‘KISS’, murder ballad ‘PERFECT DRESS’ and pulsating instrumental ‘FROST’.

After launching the project in late 2020, COLLAR have performed at tastemaker festivals Australia-wide, including a feature performance at Hobart’s Dark Mofo. Other standout performances include Jungle LoveYonder and their own headline sold-out club shows at Brisbane’s Brightside.  With a self-programmed lighting show, COLLAR’s live set toes the line between a dystopian rave and an electrifying art installation. We can’t wait to see it live!
