WITH the first stirrings of regular gig-going just beginning to make itself felt, a welcome return of one of the things that really makes life bearable, lovers of the leftfield in and around the capital, take note that sui generis musician Daniel O’Sullivan – whose career to date has taken in everything from the deep psych of Guapo, the drone majesty of Sunn O))) to last year’s imaginary film score miniatures Electric Māyā: Dream Flotsam and Astral Hinterlands and his off-kilter, stripped back collaboration with Richard Youngs, has taken on a three-night residency at Dalston’s Cafe OTO.
The consecutive trio of evenings will bring the first live experience of the leftfield for pretty much all of us in longer than, I’m sure, that same constituency would care to count.
Daniel says: “I’m excited to collaborate with Cafe OTO and be able to bring together close friends, collaborators and local heroes to tread the boards once again for three nights of magic in the most significant experimental music space in the world.”
Night the first will be held on Tuesday, August 3rd, and will feature Daniel himself headlining, ably abetted by the Dream Lion Ensemble and with support from The No Show. More information on that, here.
On the Wednesday, August 4th, Daniel and Richard Youngs will play last winter’s collaborative album, Twelve Of Hearts, which is out now on O Genesis, with performances also from Merlin Nova and the musique concrete-meets-spoken word trio Secluded Bronte – more on that here; and the concluding night, Thursday, August 5th, Alexander Tucker’s MICROCORPS will headline, with support from Daniel, Joe Carnell and trio and performance artist Serena Korda – more details here.
