DIMPLE DISCS, the small-is-beautiful home of Damien O’Neill, Cathal Coughlan and others, is staging a trio of bands associated with the label at Islington’s legendary The Lexington early next month – and on the bill are cult Dublin combo Sack, who’ll be appearing in London for the first time in 20 years.
The quintet who recorded three albums through the Nineties and who released big, neo-gaze stormers like “The Butterfly Effect” during the period – and who’ve been described, thanks to singer Martin McCannon’s blue-eyed soul stylings, as “Sinatra fronting the Pixies.”
Morrissey was so taken by that single that he invited Sack to open for him worldwide on his 1999 tour, saying they “should be number one forever”.
Also appearing on the triple bill will be the kraut-psych-pop moves of fellow Dubliners Keeley, whose four-track EP Brave Warrior, came out on Dimple Discs in the summer; and for those who like their guitars brittle and atmospheric and gnarly, The Wolfhounds’ Andy Golding will be taking his London bow as Dragon Welding, whose second album, The Lights Behind The Eyes, we’ve also loved in recent months.
It’s all going down at the corner of Pentonville and Penton from 7.30pm on Thursday, December 9th; tickets are £15 and are available here and here.
