The witty, genre-defying, Queen of sad girls Faye Webster has delivered her highly anticipated new album I Know I’m Funny Haha for our listening pleasure, via Secretly Canadian. Continuing to break barriers with her engaging songs of love, loneliness and the mundane, Webster’s ability to give profundity to matters of the heart and the everyday is so relevant right now, in a time where we all feel like outsiders.

The video for new single A Dream With A Baseball Player, directed by Matt Swinsky, is the fifth and final single from the album, following I Know I’m Funny haha, Cheers, Better Distractions and In A Good Way. It is also the oldest song on the record and refers to the teenage crush she had on Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr., whom she met at a Braves game in 2019.

“I guess this song explains what having a crush feels like. Having made up conversations with them in your head even though you don’t speak their language, wearing their team jersey every day, things that make you feel closer to this person that you don’t know at all.” -Faye Webster

Following her 2019 breakthrough (and Secretly Canadian debut) Atlanta Millionaires Club, I Know I’m Funny haha is Webster’s strongest music showcase yet. Her pretty, plainspoken songs draw inspiration from vintage lap-steel guitar pop as well as classic country tunes and even some R&B. The record, as Webster herself says, “is coming from a less lonely place” than her debut album. She returns in love- more settled and more confident.

The cleverly colloquial title of the album shows the humor and personality that typically shines through Webster’s music. “One of my favorite things about songwriting is taking thoughts that people don’t really think are worthy, or might overlook, and highlighting them,” she says.

Webster is continually pushing herself to learn more, this important growth mindset enabling her to be more vulnerable. “I told myself a few years ago that I was going to be more honest in my songwriting, that honesty is the best route to take with music. If I have a voice and people are listening to me, I’m not going to waste it.”
