We’re now less than four weeks away from Philadelphians Mannequin Pussy‘s next move: the trio’s first collection of new material in nearly two years called Patience. The 5-song EP features lead single ‘Control’, released last month, and four other new songs, among which is its fiery title track. The knowingly ostentatious video is below, directed by vocalist and guitarist Marisa ‘Missy’ Dabice, and the song is an absolute rager that’s over and done with in not even 90 seconds. They’re pretty damn good at that – 2019’s third album Patience is their longest record and it clocks in at just over 25 minutes – but listen closely and you’ll hear the anxiety that runs through every note. Missy explains:

“Last year, I found myself spending more time on my phone than I ever had in my life. Physically separate from other people, I spent hours of time watching other humans perform on my rectangle. I realized that through years of social media training, many of us have grown this deep desire to manicure our lives to look as perfect, as aspirational as possible. We want to put ourselves out there, share our lives, our stories, our day to day – and these images and videos all shout the same thing: ‘Please look at me, please tell me I’m so perfect.’ It’s simultaneously a declaration of our confidence but edged with the desperation that seeks validation from others.”

The song’s pretty much ‘Perfect’ as it is. Tune in below, and look out for the EP landing on Friday May 21st via Epitaph Records.
