News: Melbourne’s exquisite dream pop trio Dorsal Fins announce new album ‘Star of the Show’ and unveil the ethereal track ‘Sister’ as a taste of what’s to come.

The new single by Melbourne dream pop outfit Dorsal Fins is appropriately floating and ethereal with an aquatic, instistant sibilance about it. Co-lead singer Ella Thompson’s vocals are velvet soft, yearning and mesmerising as they glide along an undercurrent of sinewy instrumentation, bubbling along a clattering percussion. The result is something that has a dreamy, cloudy expansive vista. The song slowly burns – reaching an anthemic ascendancy: a thrilling journey.

There is a thread of positivity seeping through the melancholy tone – Thompson says:

Sister’ is about solidarity and trying to see something from someone else’s perspective and then finding solidarity in that connection. My interpretation of sisterhood is not between only women, but between allies and people that understand, and that can stand together.

It’s a beautiful message for a beautiful song – and the accompanying video, directed by Izzy Austin, matches the bucolic tone with scenes of cult-like reverential formation dancing and sunshine pastoral bliss:

‘Sisters’ comes off the newly announced album ‘Star of the Show due out through Dot Dash Recordings/Remote Control Records due out on Friday, 13 May 2022, and based on this and earlier single ‘Sugar‘, this is going to be quite something.
