ICELAND’S modern compositional phenomenon Ólafur Arnalds has announced details of a new short film, entitled When We Are Born, which is set to premiere worldwide on March 7th. You can watch the trailer below.
Directed by Vincent Moon, who’s worked with Arcade Fire and Bon Iver, When We Are Born is a creative live performance film that tells a very human story, based in part on Ólafur himself.
Filmed on location in Iceland last summer 2020, it features the contributions of not just Vincent Moon, but groundbreaking choreographer Erna Ómarsdóttir, the Iceland Dance Company and cinematographer Thor Eliasson.
Themes of ritual, relationships and our inner landscape are explored alongside songs with similar resonance from Ólafur’s album, some kind of peace, performed and recorded live on set. The overarching theme is how we all move forward; especially potent in these times of viral disconnection.
When We Are Born will premiere as a ticketed stream on March 7th followed by an exclusive Q&A; a full release and soundtrack will follow.
Tickets will be on sale from tomorrow with general sales live next Monday, February 15th; ticket prices start at £12, with exclusive poster, CD and poster and LP and poster ticket bundles also available. Those tickets may be purchased here.
The initial run of screenings will be as follows:
World premiere, 7pm GMT, Sunday, March 7th, for London and Reykavik;
8pm Eastern Time on Sunday, March 7th, for New York;
8pm Pacific Time on Sunday, March 7th, for Los Angeles; and
7pm Japan Time/9pm Australian Eastern Daylight Time on Monday, March 8th, for Tokyo and Sydney.
