News: Sydney’s psychedelic stars WAWAWOW announce ‘Quaranteen Spirit’ tour for July.

Bruised and bloodied by the rude interruption of COVID just as they were releasing their album ‘Pink Elephant’ last year, the Sydney quartet WAWAWOW have just announced a tour to launch the album. Amusingly referencing the bilious past 18 months, the tour is entitled ‘Quaranteen Spirit’: an acknowledgment of the true spirit of endurance collectively needed by the music industry.

Still, there is a brief glimmer of sunshine – fittingly as Australia passes through its winter solstice and the days start getting longer. The band says:

We’re fully suited out in uniforms for this tour, we’ve got flashing lights on each of our heads, we coil lights around each of our instruments and control them from the stage. Occasionally we dabble in lasers, projections and glowing drumsticks. If you can’t make it to White Night or Vivid Sydney, just come to our show for your luminary fix!

Here’s a taste of a track from the album, the ebullient, wild and effervescent Sabre the Toothtiger:

The tour dates are as follows:

Friday July 2 Tote Upstairs w Gumboot and Signal Chain, Melbourne Tickets

Saturday July 3 Gasometer Upstairs w The Ivory Elephant and Steven RKS Melbourne Tickets

Wednesday July 7 Hamilton Station Hotel w Mission Banana, Liquid Joy and Orion Jennings Newcastle – free entry

Friday July 16 The Polo w Spinning Plates and Eloria Canberra

Friday July 23 Waywards w Dweeb City and Florange Sydney Tickets

Sunday July 25 North Wollongong Hotel supporting Eliza & The Delusionals with Pinkish Blu and Sarah Jane for ‘Yours & Owls Sundays’ Wollongong

All the details of the tour and the album and everything else you would probably want to know are available here. As the band says,

We’re first and foremost a live experience – once we start playing, we literally don’t stop until the show is done.
