IT MUST’VE been pretty full-on cathartic and emotional to have been at the UK Government’s Covid-relaxation test gig in the green surrounds of Liverpool’s Sefton Park on the first Sunday in May. Real, actual, open-air live music.
And on that bill was Wigan’s absolute cutest, The Lathums, who got to play a ten-song set to feed the minds of the five thousand in attendance.
Sharing the stage with Blossoms and Zuzu, the event was restricted to fans from the Liverpool area and conducted under strict testing criteria; figures state that only 11 people across the whole weekend’s test events tested positive for the ‘rona. A proper glimmer of light.
And now Island has released the entire set, which features readymade anthems such as “I See Your Ghost” and “Oh My Love” – you can find it, playlist it, embrace it, right now over at Spotify.
The band’s frontman, Alex Moore, says: “It’s only now, knowing that everybody could enjoy themselves and it remain safe, that the picture is complete and we’re so grateful to have been there.
“The atmosphere at Sefton Park before the show was a real buzz and then our time on stage went so quickly.
“The feeling afterwards will never leave me, just overjoyed to have played our songs to that many people and for that many people to respond so generously. It was a privilege for all of us.”
