Los Angeles power disco duo Cobra Man have released new visuals for their recent single Heatwave, which caught the ear of the great and good (and probably not so good as well) in the blog / radio worlds, and we’re delighted to be able to premiere the video right here on Backseat Mafia today.

Of the song, the band say “We didn’t know our song would be such a hellish prophecy. We wrote “Heatwave” a year ago along with the video concept. It’s about being locked inside and losing your mind during a heatwave, desperate to cool down. We had a lot of obstacles to overcome in making this video safely, but we’re lucky to have some incredibly talented friends who helped us make it happen.”

The arid heat of the track comes across in these gluey, echoey synths and blobs of bassline and squelch underfoot, as the whole thing has this dream(pop) – like state. Over the top, it pulls these gloriously addictive tunes from out of the 80s, kicking them through Spoon and Unknown Mortal Orchestra on the way to their own pop-funk space.

The video is fun, fabulous and has this brilliant little twist right at the end. Check it out, here
